Biography for Hans Hofmann

Name: Hans Hofmann

Nationality: Bavaria

Born: 1880

Died: 1966

Hans Hoffman was born in Bavaria in 1880. He was an influential artist and teacher. He began his studies in Munich where late neo-impressionism was much favored. However, by 1904 he had moved to Paris under the patronage of Freudenberg and became influenced by the likes of Kandinsky and Delaunay. In 1915 Hoffman founded his own art school in Munich and taught there until 1932.

In 1932 Hoffman went to the United States and he became an American Citizen in 1941. Hoffman taught at Berkley and in 1934 he founded the Hans Hoffman School of Fine Arts in New York.

Hoffman experimented with many styles and he pioneered the drip and pour technique which was later popularized by Jackson Pollock.

During 1944 Hoffman had a one-person exhibition a Peggy Guggenheim's Art of the Century Gallery.

Hans Hoffman died in New York in 1966

Delivery Times

We currently have over 14.000 paintings online, each offered in up to 25 size options. It is therefore impossible for us to hold stock and your painting will be created specifically for you by one of our in-house professional artists. Subject to size and drying time most paintings are completed with 14-21 days. However, quality is always our First priority. Paintings with a heavy impasto or special technique technique require extra prepraration time. If you require your painting quickly, just let us know when you place your order and we will make it a priority in the Studio, without compromising on quality of course!
