Nabis paintings (Les Nabis) took its name from the Arabic word for prophet. The main members who produced the Nabis oil paintings were Pierre Bonnard, Edouard Vuillard and Paul Serusier. Maurice Denis is also considered a Nabis artist. Many famous Nabis paintings can be seen in our Nabis reproduction gallery. The Nabis artists came to prominence in the 1890's and are recognized as part of the Post-Impressionist movement. Bonnard, Vuillard and Denis were already established as artists. Serusier only became more widely known as part of the Nabis school when he took the advice of Paul Gauguin and painted The Talisman in 1888. The influence of Gauguin on Nabis oil paintings is very clear in terms of form and especially color. Today, Nabis replica paintings are widely available.
