First used as a critical term for the art of Aleksandr Rodchenko, Constructivism originated in Russia in the early 1900’s. The movement grew in Moscow and was linked to the post – revolution Bolshevik government. Constructivism has an industrial style, and is seen as a forerunner to modern day graphic and multimedia design. Constructivist art was influenced by earlier works of fellow Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky which in turn influenced the Bauhaus movement in Germany.
