Cubism was an art and sculpture movement started in the early 1900’s by Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque. Other artists joined the movement in later years, most notably Fernand Leger and Juan Gris. Picasso and Braque had been influenced by the later works of Paul Cezanne at the end of the 1890’s. Picasso’s Les Desmoiselles d’Avignon completed in 1907 is a large oil painting which depicts five naked prostitutes.
