The Nabis School took its name from the Arabic word for prophet. Its main members were Pierre Bonnard, Edouard Vuillard and Paul Serusier. Maurice Denis is also considered a Nabis artist. The Nabis artists came to prominence in the 1890’s and are recognized as part of the Post-Impressionist movement. Bonnard, Vuillard and Denis were already established as artists. Serusier only became more widely known as part of the Nabis school when he took the advice of Paul Gauguin and painted The Talisman in 1888, and the influence of Gauguin in this oil painting is very clear in terms of form and especially color.
