The Newlyn school was an artist colony establish in Newlyn, Cornwall, UK, near to Penzance, in the 1880’s. The Newlyn school artists include husband and wife Stanhope Forbes and Elizabeth Forbes. British artists were attracted to this part of Cornwall because the light was perfect to paint by, the cost of living was very cheap, and there were many scenes to paint such as the local fishermen, the sea and the boats, and nearby villages. One the better known paintings by Stanhope Forbes is “A Street Scene in Brittany 1881” which was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1882.
All I can say is WOW, I never expected to receive such a magnificent quality painting, it looks feels and smells like the original.
