Impressionist artist Reynolds Beal painted in New York and around Newburg on the Hudson River, where his wealthy family owned a summer home. He and his brother, the artist Gifford Beal, traveled extensively making extended trips to China, the Far East, Europe, the Caribbean, and the South Pacific. Upon their return to the U.S. Reynolds Beale and Gifford Beale held a joint exhibition at the Fitchburg Art Center in Massachusetts, displaying some 83 works. Illness prevented Reynolds Beale from painting in the early 1940’s and he died in Rockport in 1951.
