Movie posters came into being at the start of the Hollywood movie industry in the early 1900's with the Nickelodeons in America, where the public went to watch movies. The posters were printed by the movie studios to advertise the movie showing at the theater. The posters usually had the name of the stars and either pictures of the stars or a scene from the movie.
