Pierre Bonnard was an early 20th century French painter known as a founder of the Post-Impressionist Nabis movement. The style of this movement is evident in Pierre Bonnard’s paintings. Bonnard studied law and graduated as a barrister, but had been taking art classes as well and chose to follow a career in art. While studying in Paris he met Toulouse-Lautrec, Edouard Vuillard, and Maurice Denis. He moved from Paris to live in the South of France and was known for the detailed preparation of his work, sketching and taking photographs of his subjects before starting to paint.
