Lebasque was a 19th and early 20th century French post-impressionist painter whose work is widely held by museums in France. Although not as famous, Lebasque was friends with many of the great painters of his day. He was influenced by the paintings of Renoir and Pissarro, then Bonnard and the Nabis Group, as well as his friend Matisse, with whom he exhibited.
Lebasque’s style of painting changed significantly after moving to the South of France where he began using a much brighter palette.
Two of Lebasque’s paintings of nude women are Sitting Nude (Nu Assise) and Nude on the Bed 1905 (Nu Couche). A Young Woman Seated with Hydrangeas (Jeune Femme aux Hortensias) and Garden in Summer are oil paintings by Henri Lebasque which can be purchased as canvas replicas.
