Jean Dominique Antony Metzinger was a French painter who experimented with many painting styles. He was from a prominent military family and was interested in both art and mathematics. Metzinger exhibited and sold his paintings through the gallery of Berthe Weill, who was the first dealer in Paris to sell the work of Picasso. Matisse, Derain, Modigliani and Utrillo also sold their paintings though Weill’s Gallery. Metzinger became associated with the Fauvism movement, Neo-Impressionists and Symbolists, before writing a memoir on the concept of Cubism thereby influencing both Braque and Picasso. Metzinger linked art to mathematics in developing Cubism and he considered one of the most influential figures in Modern Art.
