Pierre Auguste Cot was a French portrait painter of the 19th century who studied in Paris under William-Adolphe Bouguereau and is famous for two paintings, both held in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The first painting and best known is Le Printemps (Spring) featuring two young lovers sitting on a swing, and the other is The Storm, painted in 1880
