Robert Antoine Pinchon was a Post-Impressionist painter known for his landscapes and for being a member of the Rouen School. He exhibited with Monet at various exhibitions in his youth. Pinchon fought in the First World War, he was captured but escaped and subsequently exhibited paintings created whilst a prisoner. Pinchon’s War experiences left him depressed and although he continued to paint and his work was exhibited, he was disillusioned by his War experiences. Still living in Rouen, he witnessed the outbreak of World War 2 and the German invasion of Rouen. He died at only 56 years old.
