The painter William Lathrop responsible for establishing the art colony at New Hope, Pennsylvania. Born in Ohio he went to work as an illustrator in New York City and entered a series of watercolors in a competition that he won, which established his career as an artist. He moved to New Hope in 1889 and lived and worked there with his art colony for the next 30 years.
Many of Lathrop’s impressionist landscape paintings are for sale and include canvas replicas of Elys Bridge, Road along the Bluff and Canal at New Hope.
