Egon Schiele was a 20th century Austrian painter and a student of Gustav Klimt. Klimt was very impressed with Schiele’s art and he supported him financially by purchasing some of his paintings. Schiele is known for his many self-portraits and figurative style art, and for being an exponent of what became Expressionism. Egon Schiele was conscripted into the army during World War 1 where he was allowed to continue to paint and his output was prolific. He died during a flu epidemic at only aged 28.

Schiele’s most expensive painting, Houses With Colorful Laundry, was sold in 2011 for $40 million by Sotheby’s.

Schiele is also well-known for his paintings of nudes including some self-portrait works. Friendship (Freundschaft) depicts two women whilst Self Portrait with Twisted Arm 1910 is just one of many of the paintings of the artist himself.
