Who is Gerard Hoet?

Gerard Hoet is a Dutch Golden Age artist born in The Hague in 1648. As a young man, he trained with his father and brother, both of whom were glass painters.

During his lifetime, he worked throughout Europe, primarily in Germany and Paris. Gerard Hoet was also an engraver, and he established a drawing academy in Utrecht. He returned to The Hague, spending the remainder of his life as both a painter and an art dealer.
