Eugene Boudin was a French landscape and marine painter of the 19th century. Boudin was among the early French landscape painters to paint en plein air (painting outdoors). Boudin encouraged an 18 year old Claude Monet to join him painting in the Honfleur region and the two men became lifelong friends. Monet acknowledged the influence of Boudin upon his style of Impressionist painting. Both Boudin and Monet exhibited paintings at the first Impressionist exhibition in 1873. His contemporary, painter Jean Baptiste Camille Corot, dubbed him “ the king of the skies”.
