Laurence Stephen Lowry RBA RA was a 20th century English artist famous for his highly individual style of painting matchstick like figures in his Northern Industrial landscapes. Lowry’s paintings are mainly of the Pendlebury area of Lancashire where he lived and painted for over 40 years. Many of his paintings are held in The Lowry, a purpose built museum in Salford for some 400 of his paintings whilst others are in London at the Tate Gallery, and in the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York.
During his lifetime Lowry painted over 1000 paintings and over 8000 sketches.
