American Charles Sheeler was an artist and photographer, perhaps more famous for his photography than for his paintings. Sheeler was one of the founders of American modernism. He studied in Philadelphia under William Merritt Chase and visited Paris where he saw the work of Cubist artists Picasso and Braque. Upon his return to America he trained as a commercial photographer believing that he could not make a living from his paintings. His paintings were in the Precisionist style and he was commissioned by the Ford Motor Company to paint and take photographs of their factories.- https://www.reproduction-gallery.com/artist/charles-sheeler/
