French avant guard painter Francis began painting in the Impressionist and Pointillist styles and then became associated with Cubism. In 1911 he joined the Puteaux Movement, which was a commune of artists in the western suburbs of Paris. Other members of the group included Albert Gleizes and Fernand Leger. Picabia was given a one man show in New York by Alfred Stieglitz and he became extremely popular with New York society. Upon his return to Paris, he changed his style to a more Surrealist approach, and became friends with the novelist Gertrude Stein. He moved, finally, to the south of France where he embarked on a series of nude paintings. His works are collected worldwide and are held by museums in New York, Chicago, Paris and London.- https://www.reproduction-gallery.com/artist/francis-picabia/
