George Grosz was a German artist famous for his caricatures and paintings depicting life in Berlin, in the 1920’s. Grosz escaped WW2 by leaving for New York in 1933. He became a naturalized American in 1938 and taught art at the Art Students League of New York for many years. George Grosz was an Expressionist painter who experimented with Futurism. He also produced graffiti styled content in his caricatures.
Grosz painted the Poet Herrmann-Neisse in several oil on canvas portraits.
