Paula Modersohn-Becker was a German Expressionist artist who died at the young age of 31. Along with Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse, Modersohn-Becker is credited with introducing the Modernism Movement. Modersohn-Becker was born in Dresden but her family moved to Bremen. It was there she studied art after which she moved to Paris. She is recognized as being the first significant female artist to regularly paint female nudes, something that was unheard of at that time.
Female Nude paintings by Modersohn-Becker include Self-Portrait with Amber Necklace and Mother with Baby on her Arm 1906.
Paula Modersohn-Becker’s artistic career was cut short by an untimely death, but you can now enjoy some of her paintings. Modersohn Becker’s expressionism oil paintings are all available as oil on canvas reproductions.
