What is August Macke known for?

August Robert Ludwig Macke, more generally known as August Macke, is a leading member of the German Expressionist group of artists and the Blaue Reiter art movement.

August Macke paintings are known for their strong colors and form.  The Fauvism paintings of  Henri Matisse influenced his work along with the Cubist and Orphism inspired paintings of Robert Delaunay, both of whom he greatly admired.

Lady in Green Jacket was painted in 1913 and is owned by the Museum Ludwig in Cologne.  In Colored Forms, I and Colored Forms II, dated 1913 and 1914, respectively,  Robert Delaunay's influence is in evidence.

Who were the artists involved in German Expressionism?

Along with Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, and George Grosz, to name just a few, Macke was a prominent German Expressionist painter.
The group came together in the early 20th century.  The group combined writers and artists whose thinking and opinions sought to effect change in society.

Which artist was a member of Der Blaue Reiter group?

Wassily Kandinksy founded the Group in 1911, but Auguste Macke was a prominent member of Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider).

Where did August Macke live?

August Macke was born in Germany in 1914.  However, his life was short, and he died at the age of 27 on the battlefields of World War 1.
