August Macke was a 20th century German painter who started his career as an Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artist but moved from Fauvism to German Expressionism as a member of the Blue Rider Group. Macke worked with Paul Klee and met Wassily Kandinsky as a result of his friendship with Franz Marc. August Macke was killed very early on in World War 1, at aged only 27.
