Patrick Henry Bruce. Late 19th and early 20th century American Cubist artist. Born in Virginia, Bruce was from a wealthy plantation family who lost its fortune in the American Civil War. Patrick Bruce studied first in New York with William Merritt Chase and Robert Henri, and then moved to Paris where he studied with Matisse and lived for most of his life. Although aligned by others with the Cubism Movement, Bruce never tied himself to a style. However, his later paintings show a geometric form which influenced Fernand Leger and Amedee Ozenfant in the 1920’s.
Painting II by Patrick Bruce can be purchased as a hand painted oil canvas reproduction.
