Joaquin Sorolla paintings exemplify Spanish art at its best; he painted portraits and landscapes under the bright Spanish sunlight.
Joaquin Sorolla was born in Valencia and both of his parents died when he was a child. He was raised by his aunt and uncle and studied at the Prado in Madrid. From there he went to study in both Rome and then Paris, and then worked in Europe and in America, painting a portrait of President Taft in the White House. Sorolla exhibited at the St Louis Art Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago, with 161 of his canvases being displayed. Sorollo’s most famous paintings are a series of 14 gigantic murals, of 12 to 14 feet in height and a total of 227 feet long, displayed in the Hispanic Society of America building in Manhattan, where they can still be seen today. Sorolla is widely collected and J Paul Getty purchased 10 of his paintings which can be seen at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles.
Popular reproduction paintings by Joaquin Sorolla are “After Bathing”, “Three Sails 1903”, “Walking along the Beach” also known as “Strolling Along the Seashore” and “Two Sisters Valencia”.
