Cole, Thomas

Beautiful reproduction landscape paintings by Hudson River School painter Thomas Cole

Thomas Cole was a 19th century British born American landscape artist and member of the Hudson River School. Thomas Cole is also known for his Romanticism paintings. His family moved from the UK to Ohio in 1818 and from there Cole moved to Catskill, New York to paint. His paintings were accepted by the American Academy of the Fine Arts and he gained the significant following of many wealthy patrons. Thomas Cole was also an engraver and produced thousands of sketches. He traveled extensively in Europe, mainly in Italy, studying the Old Masters. He moved permanently to Catskill and painted in a studio next to his home, Cedar Grove, now a National Historic Site and open to the public.

Thomas Cole’s famous landscape paintings, The Titan’s Goblet and The Course of Empire Desolation 1836, are for sale as hand-painted museum quality oil on canvas reproductions.
