American Impressionist painter Edward Henry Potthast is known for his scenes of Central park and the beaches of New York and New England. Potthast studied in the US and Europe in his early years and then settled for the rest of his life in New York. Until his late 30’s he was a lithographer, but he developed an Impressionist style of painting that became very popular in the America. Many of Potthast’s paintings are of the crowded beaches of Coney Island and Brighton Beach.
