Why do artists create paintings of cityscapes?

Who is a painter of cityscapes?

Many famous painters worked on cityscapes during their careers. These works included Childe Hassam's New York City paintings, such as Evening in New York (c.1890) and A New Year's Nocturne. 

Cityscapes aren't just limited to full-time residents of these cities, however. For instance, the famed French painter Claude Monet produced a series of paintings of London depicting the Houses of Parliament. 

French Impressionist artists (such as Camille Pissarro) also created cityscape paintings capturing views of London, as did the Fauvist artist Andre Derain.
