Albert Aublet was born in Paris in 1851. He had one son who was an architect and was married to the daughter of another artist, William Ablett. He is known for his Orientalism art and his famous nude paintings. During his lifetime, Albert Aublet's paintings were awarded several medals. These include the Salon Exhibition 1873 and the 1889 Exposition Universelle for which the Eiffel Tower was constructed. In 1890 he was decorated with the Legion of Honor, and he was also appointed as the President of the Societe des Artistes de Tunis.
Aublet trained under fellow French artist Jeon Leon Gerome whose oil paintings include Orientalism art and portrait paintings. Famous paintings by Albert Aublet include Selene 1880, later known as The New Moon, which was sold by Sotheby's, New York, in 2007. Aublet's oil painting, Nude with Veil (Une Beaute Orientale), was completed in 1888, and it is one of our most popular paintings of nudes. The artist is also recognized for his Genre paintings, mainly centered around his visits to Algiers with Jean Leon Gerome.
