Antonio Jacobsen is a Danish artist who is often referred to as the "Audubon of Steam Vessels." He created over 6,000 oil paintings of steamers and ships, making him one of the most prolific Maritime painters. As his success and reputation grew, he was commissioned by many sea captains to capture their ships and crew in what have now become some of his most famous paintings.
Jacobsen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1850 but moved to the United States in 1873. He died in New Jersey in 1921
