Axel Torneman Oil Painting Reproductions

Axel Torneman is known for his Modern Art Movement paintings and is also one of the first Expressionist artists born in Sweden. In addition to his famous paintings, he was also commissioned to paint murals for several large public institutions in Stockholm. Many of Torneman's famous cafe paintings are centered around the Place Pigalle, and his oil paintings met with approval at the 1905 Salon d'Automne in Paris. The artist studied at various art institutions across Europe, including the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where the Art Nouveau paintings of Arnold Bocklin influenced him.

Alex Torneman modern art paintings represent a breakthrough in 20th Century Swedish art, and he is often referred to as the "Father of Swedish modernism". A retrospective exhibition was held at The Moderna Museet in Stockholm in 1965.
