Charles Courtney Curran is an American Impressionist artist well known for his paintings of women. He was born in Kentucky, with an early interest in oil painting. He studied at the Fine Arts Academy of Cincinnati and the Arts Student League in New York. Shortly after his marriage, Curran and his new wife moved to Paris, where he studied at the Academy Julian for two years. Jules Bastien LaPage paintings proved inspirational to Curran.

Oil paintings by Charles Courtney Curran include A Breezy Day 1887, on display at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Two other American Impressionist paintings, Hanging Out Linen and Lotus Lilies 1888 also portray women in domestic settings. Although the artist is mainly known for his famous paintings of women, he also painted landscape oil paintings and, latterly, portraits.
