Edmund William Greacen was a 20th century American painter born in New York City, where he studied and worked for most of his life. He studied with William Merritt Chase at the New York School of Art and travelled to Europe where he met Claude Monet at his home in Giverny and began to work on en plein air paintings, following the Impressionist style. He became a member of the Old Lyme Art Colony of American Impressionist and worked with John Singer Sargent to establish the Grand Central School of Art which he ran for over 20 years.

His best known works are studies of his wife Ethel, “Ethel in The Rose Garden Giverny France”, landscapes painted in Old Lyme,” Bridge at Old Lyme Connecticut II “, and images of New York, “New York Skyline 1920 “and of Long Island, “The Beach at East Hampton Long Island “.
