Emma Minnie Boyd was born in Australia in 1858 and died aged 77.  She was born into an affluent family with parents who encouraged her interest in painting from a young age.  She was a student at the National Gallery of Victoria School, and her contemporaries include fellow Australian artists Arthur Streeton, Frederick McCubbin, and James Conder.  She was married to Arthur Merric Boyd, also an artist, and they had five children together.  She is the mother of Penleigh Boyd, who died at the age of 33, who is also known for his paintings of landscapes. She is also grandmother to Arthur Boyd, who is one of Australia's most popular 20th century artists.

Emma Minnie Boyd, more generally known as Minnie Boyd, is one of Australia's famous women artists.  The Window Seat was painted in 1887 and is displayed at the National Gallery of Victoria.  Australian Bush oil paintings include Dandenong Ranges and Bush Track with Figure.
