Frank Weston Benson was an American Impressionist artist who is widely admired and collected. Weston Benson began as a realist portrait painter, but in 1898 he joined the group known as The Ten American Painters. This group included famous artists Childe Hassam, Thomas Dewing and William Merritt Chase. Frank Weston Benson began to paint outdoors (en plein air), like the French Impressionists. He became well known for his family scenes and landscapes, often painting at his summer home of North Haven, Maine. Calm Morning is one of Benson's most famous paintings and it hangs in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, close to his hometown of Salem, Massachusetts.
