Ito Jakuchu was a 19th century Japanese painter from the Edo period. Jakuchu was born in Kyoto and was a follower of Zen Buddhism. Many paintings by Jakuchu involve traditional Japanese subjects of birds and chickens. He became commercially successful and was commissioned by temples and shrines to paint panels and screens all across Japan.
