Miro was a Spanish Surrealist painter and sculptor who was born in Barcelona and was inspired by the Cubist movement artists and the paintings of Vincent van Gogh and Paul Cezanne.
Miro moved to Paris to study and to work, but returned to Spain during the summer months.
Miro sold his paintings through Pierre Matisse, Henri Matisse’s brother, who took Miro’s work to America, when he opened a gallery in New York. Miro was commissioned to produce a tapestry for the World Trade Centre which was lost in 9/11. Some of Miro’s most famous paintings are the Blue Series, 1, 2, and 3.
Miro’s painting, The Farm, was purchased by Ernest Hemmingway.
