Lawren Harris was a Canadian painter famous for being a member of The Group of Seven, an art movement founded in Canada in 1909 by AY Jackson. Lawren Harris was born into a wealthy family of industrialists, whose wealth derived from their ownership of the Massey-Harris agriculture group, the largest producers of agricultural machinery in the world, at that time. The Group of Seven artists painted the wild and remote areas of Canada. They went to the north shore of Lake Superior, to the Rocky Mountains, and to various remote Canadian National Parks, often up to the Arctic creating oil paintings of the Canadian landscapes.
