Russian artist of the Cubist, Suprematist and Constructivist movements Lyubov Sergeevna Popova was born into a rich Moscow family. She was encouraged from an early age to take an interest in the arts and when it was seen that she had a talent for painting she was sent to study with French painter Jean Metzinger. Popova traveled widely to see and copy many different styles, spending some time in Paris with other Russian painters. In 1916 Popova joined the Supremus Group of Artists founded by Kazimir Malevich.
