Minnie Harms Neebe. 20th century American artist who was born and worked in Chicago. She met and then married Louis Neebe, also an artist, who encouraged her to paint. She studied at the Chicago School of Art Institute and she and her husband were central figures in the Chicago art world in the 1920’s and 1930’s. She used strong colors in her paintings and although one of her teachers, George Bellows, was associated with the Ashcan school in New York, Neebe preferred a softer approach to her subjects.
Oak Street Beach 1914 is a Minnie Harms painting which illustrates her vibrant color palette.
