Morton Livingston Schamberg was an American modernist painter and photographer considered a pioneer of the Precisionist Movement and one of the first Americans to take on the Cubist style. Schamberg was born in Philadelphia and studied art with William Merritt Chase. He painted machines following the style of Dada artist Marcel Duchamp, but after the First World War he took up watercolors and still life painting. He died in a flu epidemic, in 1918, at only 37 years old.
