Paul Serusier. Was late 19th and early 20th century Post-Impressionist French painter who had a considerable influence on the avant-garde Nabis movement with his early abstract paintings. Serusier studied at the Academy Julian in Paris where he met Paul Gauguin whose paintings he admired. Serusier and Gauguin set up a group of artists known as The Talisman, and this group included Pierre Bonnard and Maurice Denis. Serusier also taught and is a recognized author on the subject of painting.
Paul Serusier painted The Talisman in 1888 and it has become one of his most famous works of art.
