Peder Severin Kroyer was known as P.S. Kroyer was a 19th century Danish painter and leader of the Skagen Painters of Danish and Nordic origin who worked and lived in Skagen, a small fishing village in Denmark. Kroyer was classically trained in Copenhagen at the Royal Danish Academy of Art, where he won a scholarship and a gold medal for best student. He started painting portraits and then, having traveled extensively in Europe meeting the French Impressionists of the time, developed his own artistic style back in the Skagen art community, painting Summer landscapes and seascapes and then portraits at his studio in Copenhagen in Winter.
