Richard Diebenkorn was an American Abstract Expressionist artist working in the Bay Area of San Francisco. He achieved worldwide fame with his extensive series of Ocean Park paintings. He was taught as a student at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco and was influenced by Clyfford Still and Willem de Kooning.
The Ocean Park series of paintings was heavily influenced by several famous Matisse paintings that Richard Diebenkorn saw in a 1966 exhibition in Los Angeles. He began painting the Ocean Park series in 1967 in Santa Monica and continued to work on it for over 18 years, producing approximately 135 canvases. His paintings can be seen in famous art museums held throughout the USA and worldwide.
