French Cubist painter Roger de la Fresnaye was born in Le Mans. He studied at the Académie Julian in Paris, and cubism paintings of Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso strongly influenced his art.
Roger La Fresnaye was a member of the Puteaux Group also known as Section d'Or, an offshoot of the Cubism Art Movement. His artistic career was halted first by the First World War and then by poor health.
He died in Grasse, in the South of France, aged 40.
