Sir Thomas Lawrence. 18th and early 19th century English painter known for his portraits and also for being the 4th president of the Royal Academy in London. He was born in Bristol and demonstrated very clear artistic abilities from a very young age. He went to London and his future, and fortune was made when he was commissioned to paint a portrait of Queen Charlotte in 1790. He remained at the top of his fame and profession for the remainder of his life. He was sponsored by the Prince Regent and painted many Royal paintings when the Prince became George IV. Thomas Lawrence completed oil paintings of other famous members of the British Aristocracy, such as the Duke of Wellington.
