Gabriele Munter was born into a rich family in Berlin. She took art lessons in Berlin and then when he parents had died, she and her sister traveled to the United States, to study. On her return to Munich she worked at the Phalanx School with Wassily Kandinsky and when they traveled to the Alps for summer classes their relationship became more personal. Munter traveled extensively in Europe, Italy, France, and the Netherlands. She met Matisse and other well-known artists and stayed with Kandinsky for approximately 12 years. In 1908 Munter’s style changed and she moved to the small town of Murnau, where she painted mainly landscapes.- https://www.reproduction-gallery.com/movement/expressionism/
