The Newlyn school was an artist's colony establish in Newlyn, Cornwall, UK, near to Penzance, in the 1880's. The Newlyn School artists include husband and wife Stanhope Forbes and Elizabeth Forbes. British artists were attracted to this part of Cornwall because the light was perfect to paint by, the cost of living was very cheap, and there were many scenes to paint such as the local fishermen, the sea, the harbor and its boats and the nearby villages. Some fabulous Newlyn School oil paintings were created which can be seen today as Newlyn School art reproductions. One of the popular paintings by Stanhope Forbes "A Street Scene in Brittany 1881" was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1882.
