She married fellow artist Michael Peter Ancher and both painters are associated with the art colony known as the Skagen Painters who came together in a village in a northern area of Denmark. Anna is the only female member of the Skagen artist's colony. Peder Severin Krøyer is the most famous artist of the group.
Anna Ancher is an artist known for her Impressionist oil paintings. Her work was exhibited at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893. Ancher studied in the Studio of Pierre Puvis de Chavannes and her work generally depicts interior scenes and the lives of the everyday people of Skagen.
